IMPHAL, Jul 18: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand has asserted that there are certain elements who do want the violence to end.
Khemchand was speaking at a Mandal level political workers’ conference held at the residence of ex-MLA Yumkhaibam Antas Khan at Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai today.
There are elements who do not want the violence to end and there are some people who have been exploiting the restive situation to earn big money, Khemchand said.
Late Md Alimuddin, elected from Lilong AC, served as the Chief Minister of Manipur twice. He was a patriotic and courageous leader, Khemchand remarked.
When late Alimuddin was serving as the Chief Minister, the Government of India sent a telegram to the State Government categorically saying that no Shaheed Minar should be constructed but Alimuddin defied New Delhi’s directive and went on to construct the Shaheed Minar seen today at Pologround, Khemchand said.
Alimuddin crumpled the telegram and threw it into a dustbin, he said.
Alimuddin worked in the collective interest of people without any discrimination based on religion or ethnicity.
Lilong AC, being the home Constituency of a great leader like Alimuddin, always occupies a special place in the minds of BJP, Khemchand said.
He appealed to the people of Lilong AC to support and elect Antas Khan who would contest the State Assembly election on BJP ticket.
If the BJP candidate is elected, Lilong AC will get something significant as a reward, Khemchand assured.
He said that the State Government has been working hard to bring an end to the protracted crisis.
He went on to claim that Jiribam is limping back to normalcy and peaceful coexistence.
But there are certain elements who do not want the violence to end and they have been plotting to sustain the crisis.
God will never forgive them and they will certainly land in trouble one day, the Chief Minister said.
Replying to a memorandum submitted by the people, the Chief Minister stated that construction of the road from Lilong Bazar to Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai has already been enlisted in the PMGSY Phase III, and the State has already received the necessary funds. He assured that construction of the road will begin in one or two months. Moreover, construction of four IVRs within Lilong AC will start once the rainfall ceases. The compound of Lilong Jamma Masjid will also be developed soon.
All development works in Lilong AC will be taken up in consultation with Antas Khan, Khemchand said. MLA Dr Thokchom Radheshyam and BJP Manipur Pradesh president in-charge N Nimbus too spoke at the political conference. MLAs Louirembam Rameshwor, Tongbram Robindro and Kh Raghumani, Sanasam Premchandra attended the conference, among others.
