IMPHAL, Jul 18 : Even as the State Government has restored the Saturday holiday and increased the Dearness Allowance (DA) of its employees from 42 per cent to 45 per cent, Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF) president Laishram Sarat has said that  its cease-work strike will continue.
He also said a joint meeting of the MGSF, Manipur Secretariat Services Association (MSSA) and Manipur State Pensioners' Union (MSPU) has been convened on July 20 to discuss their future course of action.
Notably, these three organisations have been observing a cease-work strike since July 1, demanding that the DA of State Government employees be brought at par with that of Central Government employees, the retirement age be increased from 60 to 62 years, contractual employees be regularised, and the re-engagement of retired employees be stopped.
Meanwhile, the MSPU organised a sit-in protest near Singjamei Traffic Point today in support of the demands.
Addressing the protest, Sarat said the Government's decision to increase the DA by only 3 per cent is unacceptable.
He demanded that the Government make public the timeline for increasing the remaining DA percentage.
Sarat said the employees had never insisted that all their demands be fulfilled at once, adding that they are open to discussions with the Government on their demands.
He also accused the Government of ignoring their demands despite their ongoing protests and urged the Government to fill the vacant posts in various departments.
