Police custody for KCP leader

IMPHAL, Jul 1 : The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal West, on Wednesday remanded self-styled chairman of the KCP Taibanganba group, Haobijam Dilip alias Taibanganba to 14 days' police custody in connection with seven FIRs registered against him.
According to the prosecution, Singjamei police formally arrested Haobijam Dilip yesterday in another FIR registered at the same police station after obtaining due permission from the Special Court (NIA), Imphal West.
The accused, son of late Kunjababu of Keibul Lamjao and presently residing at Bishnupur Mamang Leikai, was produced before the CJM, Imphal West, today
The police sought 15 days' custody.
During the hearing, the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) submitted that, during custodial interrogation, the accused confessed to instructing his cadres to carry out extortion activities targeting individuals, business establishments, and Government departments in the Imphal area.
The prosecution further submitted that several other criminal cases linked to the activities of the KCP Taibanganba group have been registered at Singjamei Police Station between July 2024 and January 2026.
It argued that the custodial interrogation of the accused is essential to ascertain the involvement of other associates and cadres of the group and to verify his role in the pending cases. After hearing the submissions of the prosecution and examining the case records, the CJM, Imphal West, remanded the accused to 14 days' police custody for further investigation until July 14.
