IMPHAL, Jul 2 (DIPR)
Manipur Police have appealed to the public to dial 112 in cases of crime or law and order incidents, fire emergencies, medical emergencies requiring ambulance services, women or child related emergencies, road accidents, disaster-related incidents or any other incident requiring immediate assistance.
Manipur Police have strengthened the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court of India and as a part of the Government of India’s initiative to establish a unified emergency response system.
The integrated platform has been developed to provide citizens with prompt, coordinated and accessible emergency assistance through the single emergency number 112.
Through a press release, M Pradip Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police, said that ERSS-112 integrates multiple emergency services under one platform, enabling faster coordination among various emergency service providers.
Citizens can dial 112 to access Police Emergency Services (100), Fire and Emergency Services (101), NHM Referral Transport/Ambulance Services (102), Women Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098), State Disaster Response (1017) and Transport Department SOS/Vehicle Panic Button services.
The system offers several benefits, including a single emergency number for multiple services, 24×7 emergency response, improved coordination among Police, Fire, Health and other agencies, quicker identification and routing of emergency calls, improved response through technology-enabled call management and inter- agency coordination and enhanced public safety through an integrated emergency response mechanism, the DIG said.
All emergency calls received through 112 are processed by the State Emergency Response Centre (SERC) and promptly coordinated with the concerned departments to ensure timely response, according to the press release issued by the DIG.
M Pradip Singh also stated that Police Emergency (100), Women Helpline (181), Child Helpline (1098), State Disaster Response (1017) and Transport Department SOS/Panic Button services have already been integrated and are operational through ERSS-112.
Technical integration of Fire and Emergency Service (101) and NHM Referral Transport Service (102) has been approved, with operational integration and testing currently in progress.
The press release further informed that a proposal has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs seeking allocation of 104 Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs), as the State currently has no dedicated ERSS fleet.
Public awareness initiatives have also been prepared to promote the use of the unified emergency number 112 and to inform citizens about the services currently available and those under integration, it added.
