
IMPHAL, Jul 2: Indian Revenue Service officer Michael Achom from Manipur is among eight officers who have been awarded Meritorious Service Certificate by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIC), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance.
The Meritorious Service Certificates were awarded on the occasion of the 9th GST Day Celebration on July 1.
The Meritorious Service Certificate is awarded for outstanding contribution or innovative solutions for bringing good governance, including enhanced transparency, effective administration and enforcement, accountability, grievance redressal, technology solution and innovation, etc.
The award is open to all officers of the CBIC up to Pay Level 15 who have rendered a minimum 15 years of service.
Michael Achom, currently serving as Additional Director General, Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Kolkata, is an Indian Revenue Service (C&IT, 2008) officer who has held various assignments including Delhi Customs, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Secretary, Transport/GAD, on deputation, to the Government of Manipur.
As Transport Secretary to the Government of Manipur, he had steered the department in operationalising more than 35 (thirty-five) services, including introduction of e-payment mechanism, e Driving License (eDL) and e Registration Certificate (eRC), thereby eliminating need for physical visit and engaging a third party to act as facilitator or agent.
