Border village urges

IMPHAL, Jul 2: The Huimine Thana Village Authority (HTVA) has urged the Government to strengthen border surveillance and security following yesterday's cross-border attack in Kamjong district.
In a statement, the village authority stated that several houses in Huimine Thana and the Sangkalok Myanmar refugee camp were set on fire during the "unprovoked and barbaric" cross-border attack reportedly carried out by the Kuki National Army (Burma).
Expressing grief and anguish over the incident, the HTVA appealed to the Government to immediately deploy adequate security forces along the Kamjong border to prevent further incursions and ensure the safety of civilians.
The authority said that, besides the destruction of several houses, many families have been displaced and years of hard-earned livelihoods have been lost.
It added that the attack has inflicted immense physical, emotional and economic hardship on the villagers.
Describing the incident as a grave violation of the rule of law and a serious threat to the security and stability of the international border region, the HTVA further urged the Government to conduct an immediate investigation and bring those responsible to justice.
The village authority also appealed to the Government to provide immediate relief, including food, shelter and medical assistance, to the affected families, besides funding the reconstruction of damaged homes and the restoration of livelihoods. Stating that the incident raises serious concerns about the safety and protection of vulnerable border villages in Kamjong, the HTVA called for enhanced border surveillance and stronger security measures to safeguard civilians.
It also appealed to the relevant authorities, civil society organisations, Churches and all citizens to treat the cross-border attack with the utmost urgency and seriousness and to stand in solidarity with the affected families.
