KANGPOKPI, Jul 1 : The Kuki-Zo community across Sadar Hills Kangpokpi district has intensified its agitation at Gamgiphai, declaring that the movement will continue until the Government restores unhindered traffic along National Highway-2 by removing the prolonged blockade at Namduilong-Kanglatongbi and other affected locations.
The intensified 'round-the-clock' agitation came after a standoff between security forces and protesters at Gamgiphai yesterday.
The indefinite agitation at Gamgiphai will continue until the Government ensures free movement of civilians and the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities along the highway, said protesters.
The agitation is being conducted on a roster basis, with volunteers maintaining a 24-hour vigil, monitoring traffic and checking vehicles passing through the protest site.
Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) spokesperson Ng Lun Kipgen said the Kuki-Zo community was still waiting for the Government and the authorities concerned to clear areas allegedly occupied by those enforcing the prolonged economic blockade, particularly at Namduilong-Kanglatongbi.
