SIR omits 737 Meitei voters in CCpur AC

IMPHAL, Jul 19: As many as 737 Meitei voters of Churachandpur Assembly Constituency have been found missing in the draft electoral roll published after the enumeration phase of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls.
“Missing”, “Absent” and “Dead” are the remarks or reasons given for the omission of the 737 Meitei voters.
Another reason given for the omission is shifting of residence.
Talking with The Sangai Express, Churachandpur Meitei United Committee (CMUC) convenor Naba Ningthoujam said they thought the number of Meitei voters missing from the electoral roll was small.
Even after the voters whose names were missing submitted enumeration forms through the nodal officers, their names were not inserted. This prompted the committee to launch an enquiry, he said.
It has been found that altogether 737 Meitei voters are missing from the electoral roll of 58-Churachandpur AC. The omission of the voters was detected in 33 polling stations of Churachandpur AC.
Maximum number of Meitei voters were left out in Jenhang Lamka (J) Khumujamba Junior High School polling station.
Altogether 215 Meitei voters of this polling station are missing from the draft electoral roll.
Likewise, 202 Meitei voters of Jenhang Lamka (K) polling station are also missing from the draft electoral roll.
Further, one Meitei voter has been found left out from the electoral roll in T Langnom, five in Chingkongpang East Wing, 32 in Chingkongpang West Wing, four in Churachandpur Headquarters North Wing, seven in Hiyangtam Lamka A, 40 in Hiyangtam Lamka C, two in Gouchinkhum Veng C, three in Dorcas Veng B, one in Hebron A, one in Zion Veng, two in Vengnuam F and four in Vengnuam C polling station.
One Meitei voter in Muiya Veng polling station, four in Salem Veng A, 15 in Hill Town B (South Wing), 17 in Hill Town C, four in Jenhang Lamka A, three in Jenhang Lamka B, six in Jenhang Lamka C, three in Jenhang Lamka D, one in Rengkai A and two in Rengkai B have also been found missing from the draft electoral roll.
The draft electoral does not have the names of eight Meitei voters of Konpui polling station, 32 of Ngathal A, one of Ngathal B, one of Thingkhangphai A, 83 of Thingkhangphai B, 11 of Twalnuam A, 22 of Mata and one of Mata A polling station.
Further, the draft electoral roll has left out three Meitei voters in Canan Veng and nine in Jenhang Lamka L polling station.
Naba said that Thingkhangphai, Ngathal, Khumujamba Meitei Leikai, Thengra Leikai, Mandop Leikai and Khuga Tampak are the main Meitei inhabited areas within Churachandpur AC.
He said that the CMUC has been making enquiries to ascertain the exact reasons why so many Meiteis voters have been left out of the draft electoral roll.
In the meantime, the voters whose names are missing have started submitting newly filled-in Form 6 as the window period for filing claims and objections is still open, he said.
Many among the voters whose names are missing from the draft electoral roll submitted their enumeration forms through the nodal officers concerned.
Fresh enumeration forms will be submitted for them so that they find their right place in the electoral roll, Naba said.
The CMUC convenor said that they talked about the matter with Chief Electoral Officer AK Sinha recently.
Noting the challenges faced in carrying out SIR with respect to IDPs, the CEO assured that a separate ERO will be designated for IDPs but the assurance is yet to be translated into action, he said.
He also appealed to the authorities concerned to clarify at the earliest why and how so many Meitei voters were left out from the draft electoral roll.
