Linthoi Chanambam strikes another Asian Judo C’ship gold, Nungshithoi bags silver

IMPHAL, Jul 19 : State judokas made headlines by contributing three medals, including one gold, to India’s tally at the Asian Cadet and Junior Judo Championships held in Amman, Jordan.
State judoka Linthoi Chanambam added yet another feather to her cap by clinching the gold medal in the championship.
 Linthoi, who made sporting history by becoming India's first-ever world champion in judo at any age category at Sarajevo in 2022, won the junior women’s 63 kg category gold by defeating Assylkhanova of Kazakhstan in the final bout. Linthoi secured the victory by executing an Osaekomi until she earned an Ippon ending India’s gold medal drought at the Amman event.
Last year, Linthoi secured a historic bronze at the World Junior Championships held in Lima, Peru, in the 63 kg category, as well as a gold medal at the Berlin Junior European Cup.
Linthoi, the daughter of Chanambam Ibohal Singh and Chanambam Ongbi Sanabam Guneshwori Devi of Mayang Imphal Thana Maning Khunou, is a former Asian cadet champion and has consistently made podium finishes in National and regional competitions.
Notably, her sister, Jenny Chanambam, secured a bronze medal in the Cadet girls' 57 kg category event at the same competition.
Another Manipuri judoka, Leishangthem Nungshithoi Chanu, secured a silver medal in the junior women's 52 kg category competition.
Nungshithoi was born to Leishangthem Ibotombi and Leishangthem Ongbi Radharani Leima of Mayang Imphal Thana Ani Longbi.
