Commonwealth Games 2026 Mandakini among boxing coaches, 11 State athletes in National contingent

IMPHAL, Jul 20 : 11 athletes and 3 officials are in the 191-member Indian contingent for the XXII Commonwealth Games 2026 beginning on July 23 at Glasgow, Scotland.
Boxing coachKangabam Nongol Pungshumbam Ongbi  Mandakini, Judo coach Anita Chanu Angom and Weightlifting coach Nafisa Yumkhaibam are from Manipur who were among 51 team officials named in the contingent.
Mandakini, who resides at Achanbigei Awang Leikai, works with the 25th Bn of SSB. She is married to P Somorendro.
NADO Club, Achanbigei extended warm wishes over her selection among the officials of the games.
Notably, boxer Thokchom Sanamacha Chanu and Boxing coach and Arjuna Awardee Mayengbam Suranjoy also attended the team trial selection for the Glasgow event.
11 State athletes will also represent the country across five disciplines at the games.
Mandengbam Jadumani is the lone State boxer in the squad. Jadumani, who hails from Iroishemba Amukhong Leirak will be competing in the 55 kg bantamweight division at the event. He currently trains at Army Sports Institute (ASI), Pune.
Jadumani, son of Asha Singh, started his career under the guidance of his uncle Mandengbam Milan.
Three Manipuri Track Cyclists- Jemsh Keithellakpam, Ronaldo Laitonjam and Rojit Yanglem are also in the contingent while Inunganbi Takhellambam is the lone Manipuri judoka (women’s -70 kg) player to compete at the event.
Olympic silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai, Seram Nirupama, Martina Maibam, Bindyarani Sorokhaibam, and Rishikanta Chanambam will on the other hand compete in the weightlifting competition of the games as Irengam Ritu Chanu will represent India at 3x3 Women’s Wheelchair Basketball event.
