IMPHAL, Jul 20 : The Teachers' Association-JNIMS (TA-JNIMS) has urged the competent authority to appoint a regular full-time Director of the institute, preferably from amongst its faculty members.
TA-JNIMS held an emergency meeting today and deliberated on issues concerning appointment of the JNIMS Director.
JNIMS has been functioning without a regular Director since the completion of the tenure of its former Director Prof L Usharani Devi, the Association said in a statement.
After deliberations, the meeting resolved that a panel of all faculty members of JNIMS who satisfy the prescribed eligibility criteria for appointment as Director be prepared and forwarded to the competent for consideration.
It added that appointment of JNIMS Director from among the faculty members would best serve the long-term interest and stability of the institute.
Appointment of an external candidate without due and comprehensive consideration of eligible internal candidates may not be in the best interest of JNIMS, it emphasised.
The meeting resolved that JNIMS should not continue under prolonged ad hoc or in-charge arrangements.
Moreover, the appointment of the Director of JNIMS should be guided foremost by the long term interests of the institution and made strictly in accordance with the applicable statutory provisions and prescribed eligibility criteria, it said and urged the competent authority to appoint a regular full-time Director at the earliest.
