Ramdas Athawale writes to Amit Shah

IMPHAL, Jul 21: Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking a fair and impartial enquiry into the burning of several houses belonging to the Meitei community at Kanto Sabal, Imphal West on July 11, 2026. Pointing out that the arson took place in close proximity to a camp of the 18 Punjab Regiment, Ramdas Athawale raised serious concerns regarding the response of security personnel deployed in the area.
“In view of the seriousness of the matter, I request your kind intervention to order a fair and impartial enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the role and response of the concerned security personnel. If any negligence or dereliction of duty is established, appropriate action may kindly be taken in accordance with law”, Ramdas Athawale wrote to Amit Shah on July 19, 2026.
