CM leads protest BJP, Cong workers confront each other

IMPHAL, Jul 22 : Led by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, BJP legislators and workers today staged a protest in front of Thambal Shanglen (office of BJP Manipur Pradesh) against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s alleged unacceptable behaviour in front of the official residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at New Delhi on Tuesday.
After the sit-in-protest, BJP legislators and workers marched through BT Road without Yumnam Khemchand.
As the BJP legislators and workers reached Congress Bhavan, BJP workers and Congress workers shouted at each other resulting in a tense verbal confrontation.
Speaking to media persons, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary K Sarat said that the way Congress and INDIA alliance workers led by Rahul Gandhi protested in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg using highly offensive and defamatory slogans was a matter of utter shame for the whole country.
He said that BJP Manipur Pradesh strongly condemns Rahul Gandhi’s conduct which clearly infringed upon the dignity of the country’s Prime Minister.
K Sarat said that Rahul Gandhi’s dream of becoming the country’s Prime Minister will never see the light of day.
After the sit-in-protest, BJP workers marched through Wahengbam Leikai and BT Road after crossing the Keishampat bridge shouting slogans against Rahul Gandhi.
As the BJP workers reached Congress Bhavan, some Congress workers shouted back, resulting in a tense verbal confrontation between the two rival political workers.
As the situation got heated up, several police vehicles drove in and separated the two rival political workers.
Later, the BJP workers turned back to their office through Paona Keithel.
Meanwhile, the Congress party has expressed strong indignation against security forces for allowing the BJP workers to march up to the Congress office.
One Congress leader said, “It is a matter of concern that the BJP workers marched right up to our office and shouted all kinds of accusations in the most provocative manner”. Police did not raise any objection when the BJP workers marched right up to the gate of Congress Bhavan but Congress party was not allowed to take out any rally. Such blatant discrimination is highly condemnable, the Congress leader added.
