Cong protests detention of Rahul

IMPHAL, Jul 22 : The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today staged a protest march against the detention of the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi by the Delhi police during a demonstration over the NEET question paper leak yesterday.
Led by former Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Meghachandra, the rally proceeded from Congress Bhavan to Lok Bhavan, where a memorandum was submitted to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
During the rally, they held placards with messages such as 'Modiji hear students cry', 'Discuss NEET in Parliament', 'Save students, save Manipur', 'We condemn detention of Rahul Gandhi' and 'Stop paper leaks' among others.
In the memorandum signed by Ibobi, the Congress party demanded the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a full discussion in Parliament on the irregularities in the NEET examination, and accountability for the alleged Government's failure to safeguard the future of students.
The party also demanded the withdrawal of all FIRs registered against students in connection with the Delhi protest and urged the Centre to take immediate steps to save Manipur from the ongoing crisis.
The memorandum also stated that the detention of Rahul Gandhi who protested against paper leaks and testing scandals was undemo- cratic and unlawful.
Speaking to the media after submitting the memorandum, Ibobi said they strongly condemned the detention of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and criticized the manner in which he was treated by the Delhi Police.
He said Rahul Gandhi was protesting in the interest of students, as the NEET question paper leak had affected medical aspirants across the country.
Demanding the resignation of the Union Education Minister on moral grounds, Ibobi said the fate of students across the country had been jeopardized by the examination irregularities.
He also said that Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders protested outside the Prime Minister's residence yesterday as the Government has been trying to evade accountability over the NEET question paper leak. He maintained that the protest was not carried out in an illegal manner.
In a democratic Nation like India, people have the right to hold peaceful and legitimate protests, the former Chief Minister said and alleged that the BJP-led Government, however, has been undermining democratic principles.
Ibobi also said that the Congress has been raising the issue of Manipur wherever and whenever possible. He added that Manipur's future remain uncertain under BJP rule.
