JAC calls 72-hour Imphal-Yairipok road bandh

IMPHAL, Jul 23: A 72-hour bandh has been imposed along Imphal-Yairipok road demanding justice for Ngangkham Thambou who was shot dead on July 20.
Ngangkham Thambou was shot and killed by intruders at his house at Keirao Wangkhem Mamang Leikai in the early hours of July 20.
His wife, Ngangkham Keinatombi, was also stabbed and critically injured in the incident.
While police have reportedly arrested a suspect, a breakthrough is yet to be made in the case.
Phijam Brojen, convenor of a Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the incident, said the committee is enforcing a 72-hour bandh along Imphal-Yairipok from midnight today till midnight of July 27.
The JAC is not pleased with the investigation being carried out by the police, Brojen said.
Even after arresting a suspect, the police are unable to identify and produce all the persons involved in the case, Brojen claimed.
Until the perpetrators are identified and arrested, the postmortem of the deceased shouldn't be conducted, he added.
Meanwhile, the police should stop summoning the son and daughter of the deceased and harassing them, Brojen said.
If the police are seeking to record their statements, then it must be done in presence of members of the JAC. The police must conduct the investigation impartially and swiftly, he added.
The JAC convenor also sought the attention of the Chief Minister, Home Minister and the local MLA for their intervention in the case.
