Prof Bidyananda selected for Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship

IMPHAL, Jul 23 : Manipur University has secured another international recognition with Prof Maibam Bidyananda of the Department of Earth Sciences being selected for the 2026-2027 Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowship.
According to the United States-India Educational Foundation, he will undertake an eight-month research programme at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, starting October 26, 2026.
The Fulbright-Nehru Fellowship is one of the most prestigious academic exchange programmes between India and the US.
The award adds to Prof Bidyananda’s two-decade record of competitive research funding from the Department of Science & Technology and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR). His projects have focused on the Shillong Massif, Precambrian terrains of Meghalaya and Assam, the Indo-Myanmar Ophiolite Belt, and the Arunachal Himalayas.
Prof Bidyananda earned his Ph.D in Mineralogy from Jadavpur University in 2001. He has held research appointments at PRL Ahmedabad, University of Mainz, University of Bonn, and Macquarie University, Australia.
He has published extensively on Himalayan crustal evolution and Northeast India’s geology, and has served Manipur University as Head of Earth Sciences and Proctor.
