Th Rabina, Ch Sanjit remembered

IMPHAL, Jul 23 : The 17th death anniversary of Thokchom Rabina and Chung- kham Sanjit was held at Taothong Khunou Thamnapokpi Community Hall, Lamshang today.
While Chungkham Sanjit was killed in an alleged fake encounter, Th Rabina was fatally hit by a stray bullet at Khwairamband Keithel on July 23, 2009.
During the observance today, members of the public, and representatives of civil bodies paid floral tributes to the photographs of the two.
JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Th Rabina and Ch Sanjit president Nahakpam Memcha, Haorang Sabal Meira Paibi Apunba Lup president Moirangthem Pakpi and Nupi Khunai Lamshang Bazar president Kshetrimayum Rashi attended the observance.
JAC spokesperson Ahanthem Sheela recalled the incident and stated that it was one of many crimes of excesses of security personnel.
Many youths including men and women have been "tortured and killed" by security forces, she said, citing the case of Thangjam Mano-rama, who was allegedly raped, tortured and killed after being arrested by personnel of the Assam Rifles from her house on July 11, 2004.
Denied prosecution sanction by the Government, none of the many security forces' personnel involved in cases of alleged extrajudicial killing have not been prosecuted till today, she said.
Calling on the Government to repeal AFSPA from Manipur, Sheela also commented on the present violent conflict and stated that the law and order situation in the State is degrading.
After violence broke out on May 3, 2023, hundreds of indigenous Meiteis have become refugees in their own land, she said.
The Government should restore normalcy and peace, and allow the internally displaced persons to return to their own villages, she added.
