Locals confront AR after four arrested in Ukhrul

IMPHAL, Jul 25: A confrontation between Assam Rifles personnel and locals, mostly women, was on at Leingangching area triggered by the arrest of four Naga youths this evening.
The Assam Rifles personnel were transporting four youths arrested from Ukhrul's Hungpung when they were stopped at the Leingangching area.
The arrested have been identified as Khapai Simray Yuimung (28), Shomi Shokchui (38), Hungreithei Kasomva (37) and Khuirami Kasomva (36). They were allegedly working in the field when they were picked up by AR personnel, said sources.
At Leingangching the convoy carrying the four were stopped by locals demanding their release.
A confrontation then ensued with a mob overturning two AR vehicles. The AR personnel resorted to firing tear gas shells and live bullets to disperse the mob.
The confrontation was still on at the time of filing this report.
