Bandh affects normal life, protesters demand justice

IMPHAL, Jul 25: The 72-hour bandh called by the JAC against the killing of Ngangkham Thambou restricted vehicular movement on Imphal-Yairipok road and affected normal life in the region.
On day 2 of the bandh, locals blocked the road with obstacles to prevent vehicular movement.
Ngangkham Thambou was shot and killed by intruders at his house at Keirao Wangkhem Mamang Leikai in the early hours of July 20.
His wife, Ngangkham Keinatombi, was also stabbed and critically injured in the incident.
While police have reportedly arrested a suspect, a breakthrough is yet to be made in the case.
Alleging lack of progress in the case, the JAC had called the 72-hour bandh on Imphal-Yairipok road. The bandh will continue till midnight of July 27.
The bandh today was however relaxed for media personnel, medical, electricity and water supply related services, religious and traditional rituals.
Meira Paibis, on the other hand, staged sit-ins at several places in Wangkhem demanding the police to arrest all the culprits involved in the case.
The protesters sought the Government's attention and urged it to deliver justice for the victim. The police should swiftly investigate the case and arrest all the cuprits, they said.
