NPP leader assures support

IMPHAL, Jul 26 : National People’s Party (NPP) Na-tional president Dr Conrad K Sangma has reportedly assu-red necessary political sup- port to the people’s demand for identification of original Indian citizens ahead of the Census 2027.
Representatives of the 14 CSOs Kangleipak talked twice with Conrad Sangma during his two-day visit to the State.
The talks deliberated on the current situation of Ma-nipur and the people’s wish for identification of original Indian citizens before the census operations, according to a statement issued by the 14 CSOs Kangleipak.
The civil society representatives and Conrad Sang- ma also talked at length on the people’s demand for updating the NRC before going ahead with the census operations.
Noting that illegal immigration is a major challenge for the entire North East region, the NPP president who is also the Chief Minister of Meghalaya stated that the Census 2027 is a golden opportunity for Manipur.
The CSO leaders and the NPP leader agreed that the political power should remain in the hands of indi- genous people even after the delimitation exercise based on the data of Census 2027.
Conrad Sangma assured that the NPP will always stand for the people of Manipur and the indigenous people of the North East.
Representatives of the 14 CSOs Kangleipak conveyed gratitude to the NPP for the support extended by NPP MLAs to the resolutions adopted by the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2023 and 2024 regarding the people’s demand for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
