CM inaugurates key projects at Andro

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand today inau-gurated a newly constructed Ima Market at Andro and two bridges over the Thoubal River at Khungdongbam Mapa and Wangkhem Siphai Leikai.
The inauguration was attended by Andro AC MLA Thounaojam Shyamkumar and other officials.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that peace is essential for development.
Referring to the ethnic conflict that has continued for over three years, he observed that the prolonged unrest has disrupted inter-community relations, affec- ted students' education and weakened the State's econ-omy.
Appealing to people in both the hills and the valley to cooperate in restoring normalcy, he said the Government remains committed to rebuilding the Manipur that existed before May 3, 2023, where all 36 communities lived together in harmony.
He, meanwhile, said that it was his second visit to Andro since assuming office under the new Govern- ment.
Describing Andro as the pride of Manipur, he highlighted its historical, cultural and tourism significance.
He noted that Andro's natural fire has attracted researchers and visitors from across India and abroad.
He also said that Andro, regarded as one of Asia's oldest settlements, deserves special attention for its preservation and development.
Announcing a major infrastructure initiative, the Chief Minister said the Government would sanction Rs 10 crore for the construction and improvement of inter-village roads in the constituency.
He also acknowledged the absence of a Municipal Council office in Andro and assured that the Government would take necessary steps to establish one.
Speaking at the occasion, Shyamkumar said development activities in the consti- tuency had slowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing conflict and other unforeseen challenges.
Expressing confidence in the new Government, he said developmental works would regain momentum and accelerate in the coming years.
During the programme, various welfare associations, youth clubs and local organisations submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister seeking improvement of roads, construction of retaining walls, establishment of a Municipal Council office, appointment of primary school teachers and implementation of other development projects in the constituency.
Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East Dr Lairenlakpam Nivedita, senior officials of the Planning Department, district administration, public representatives and a large number of local residents attended the function.
