IMPHAL, Jul 28 : Laishram Max of Thoubal knocked out Heisnam Dharmaraj of Dhanaraj in the first round a quarterfinal clash of the U-19 men’s -65 kg category competition as the State Level Boxing Championships 2026 for students began today at Khuman Lampak Boxing Arena.
The championships were formally opened in the presence of Sunil Elangbam, president Manipur Olympic Association; Ng Tejkumar, former president Manipur Amateur Boxing Association; Sinam Pritamkumar, retd Addl Secretary to the Governor of Manipur; Ch Thoiba, secretary SRBA and Jimmy Leivon, secretary, MKRBF as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Sunil Elangbam said that there is a strong possibility of Manipur sharing venues for three disciplines- Cycling, Hockey and Fencing, in the upcoming National Games to be hosted by Meghalaya.
He also lauded State athletes who have made podium finishes in the ongoing Commonwealth Games at Glasgow and extended best wishes to athletes who are yet to complete their campaigns.
As many as 26 pre-quarterfinal and quarterfinal bouts for various age group and weight classes were completed on the opening day.
In the opening bout, Soibam Tarunjit of Kakching advanced to the U-15 boy’s -49 kg category quarterfinals by defeating Jiribam’s Maibam Tomthinnganba Meitei 5-0 via unanimous decision.
In the U-15 Boys’ -52 kg quarterfinal matches staged today, Imphal West’s Newton Gurumayum sealed a 4-1 split decision victory over Kakching’s Yumnam Lanthoiba as Toijam Bidyananda of Bishnupur overwhelmed Thoubal Khundrakpam Donel 5-0.
Nahakpam Lamnganba of Imphal West meanwhile edged out Khundom Robert of Imphal East 3-2 in a keenly contested -55 kg category quarterfinal clash for U-15 boys.
Rajkumar Athoisana of Thoubal meanwhile prevailed 5-0 over Imphal West’s Mayengbam Sinthoiba in a -61 kg category quarterfinal clash for U-15 boys.
In the two -52 kg category quarterfinal clashes for U-17 boys staged later in the day, Moibungkhongbam Lanchenba of Kakching posted an RSC win over Bishnupur’s Kh Bidyachandra in the first round and Imphal East’s Pungshumbam Abhinash dominated Imphal West’s N Adish 5-0.
In -63 kg category quarterfinal clashes for U-17 boys staged today, Chandel’s Karung Albertson Kom knocked out Kakching’s S Robertson in the 3rd round and Bishnupur’s Oinam Bidyachandra thumped Imphal West’s Ng General 4-1.
The day also saw Johnson Khoirom of Imphal West seal an RSC win in the third round against Thoubal’s MD Alam to progress into the semi-finals of the U-19 men’s -60 kg category competition.
In the U-15 girls’ -49 kg category quarterfinal bouts, Lanthing Rainam of Ukhrul beat Y Lamnganbi of Kakching 3-2 and Nongmaithem Priyangka of Thoubal beat Imphal West’s S Langlen 4-1.
In a -55 kg category quarterfinal bout for U-15 girls, Imphal East’s Debika Choudhurimayum overwhelmed Kakching Th Bidyapati 5-0.
Thoubal’s Sara Laishram meanwhile managed a 4-1 win over Bishnupur’s Haobijam Rina to earn a place in the semi-finals of the U-17 girls’ -52 kg category competition.
In the -54 kg category quarterfinal bouts for U-17 girls staged later in the day, Imphal East’s Yumlembam Lanthoibi prevailed 5-0 over Kakching’s Ch Mandarani as Thoubal’s Sinam Ibesana edged out M Priyaluxmi of Imphal East 3-2.
In two quarterfinal bouts for U-19 women’s -48 kg category competition, Thoubal’s Moirangthem Alina outlasted L Taniya of Imphal East as Moirangthem Khrismira of Imphal West eased to a 5-0 win over H Lanchenbi of Bishnupur.
Chingshubam Reena of Imphal East meanwhile prevailed 4-1 win over A Priyangka of Bishnupur to make her way to the semi-finals of the U-19 women’s -51 kg category.
In a -40 kg category quarterfinal bout for U-15 boys, Imphal West’s Laishram Alex notched up a commanding 5-0 win over Kakching’s E Athoiba as Bishnupur’s Lamabam Punshiba secured a 4-1 win over Thoubal’s L Lamnganba and Nganthoiba Yengkhom of Imphal West beat Imphal East’s L Barun 5-0 to advance into the -43 kg category semis for U-15 boys. Md Aslam Khan of Thoubal meanwhile fought his way to the U-15 boys’ -46 kg category semis with a comprehensive 5-0 win over K Livingson of Bishnupur before Huidrom Malem of Imphal West sealed a 4-1 win over Imphal East’s Kh Borish in another quarter final clash.
