IMPHAL, Jul 3: 5 CSOs' series of protest demonstrations demanding Govt of India to end its 'proxy war" continued at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai today.
During the sit-in organised in front of AMUCO's office, protesters urged the Government of India to rein in Kuki militant groups and end its policies aimed at "dividing" communities in Manipur.
Speaking at the protest demonstration, AMUCO president Sanjoy Sorokhaibam asserted that the Government of India can end the conflict at any time it wants but it has chosen not to.
People have suffered since the conflict broke out in May 2023. However, the Government of India has chosen to ignore the plight and aspirations of the people, and not end the conflict, Sanjoy said.
The situation in Manipur is deteriorating and the tension is only escalating with dozens of houses burnt in recent days, Sanjoy said.
When violence has claimed the lives of many innocent civilians, the Government of India has refused to crack down on SoO and non-SoO Kuki militant groups, which are being used as "proxies", Sanjoy said.
When the Government of India has refused to hear the genuine aspirations of its citizens, the people must unite and "teach it a lesson", he said, adding the indigenous communities must unite.
The 5 CSOs want to foster peaceful coexistence of all communities. "We do not support economic blockade hindering supply or transport of goods to any community," Sanjoy added.
The 5 CSOs include All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur (PLMPAM), All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committee on Human Rights (COHR) and Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF).
