IMPHAL, Jul 3 : Campaign for Just & Fair Delimitation (CJFD) convenor Jeetendra Ningomba has stated that the demand by Kuki groups for separate administration is not new and traces back to November 18, 1960, when it was first raised by the Kuki National Assembly.
CJFD and Langjing Apunba Meira Paibi Club organised a public meeting at Langjing Achouba Mamang Leikai in connection with the demand to update National Register Citizens (NRC) first before proceeding with the Census operation.
At the function, Jeetendra claimed that Kukis refugees are supporting the demand to disintegrate Manipur.
Further claiming that illegal immigrants settling in Manipur have also been attempting to create animosity among indigenous communities for their own advantage, he added that these illegal immigrants should be identified.
CJFD finance secretary Sunil Karam said that a massive movement would be launched if the Government proceeds against the demand to update the NRC before conducting the Census exercise.
He also said that the Government’s initiative to begin the population count should be stopped when there is still time.
Claiming that illegal immigrants from Myanmar are involved in the ongoing conflict, he added that the future of indigenous communities would be at risk if such individuals are fraudulently included in the Census.
Alleging that Kuki narco-terrorists from Myanmar continue to intrude into Manipur to this day, he warned that if such influx is not checked at this stage, it could one day lead to a major conflict against indigenous communities.
The identification of illegal immigrants, however, cannot be carried out through violent means, he said and urged the Government to take legal measures to identify them.
