IMPHAL, Jul 3 : Protests were held at different locations today, demanding justice for the six Naga men who were abducted from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13 and butchered to death by Kuki groups.
The protest demonstrations at Mantripukhri and Khabam Lamkhai were attended by members of various communities.
Similarly, a protest-cum-condolence meeting and a memorial prayer programme were held at JNIMS mortuary compound, where the mortal remains of the six victims still lie unclaimed.
Some key demands raised during the protests were to declare the KNF (P) as a terrorist organisation, abrogate the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, remove Nemcha Kipgen from the post of Deputy Chief Minister, arrest those responsible for the killings, protect indigenous people from narco-terrorist activities, stop protecting the killers, and to evict illegal villages.
Speaking at the protest held at Mantripukhri, Bethia, a Tangkhul woman, said that the mortal remains of the six Naga victims have remained unclaimed to this day.
The Government hasn't arrested anyone in connection with the killings, she said.
Saying that no action has also been taken against the residents of Leilon Vaiphei who were involved in the abduction of the Naga civilians on May 13, she added that the Government's response has been unsatisfactory.
It is the responsibility of the Government to arrest those responsible for the killings and bring them to justice, she said and added that the public anger would not subside until justice is delivered.
Stating that Nemcha Kipgen should either resign or be removed from the post of Deputy Chief Minister, the Naga woman questioned how the wife of a leader of an armed outfit, which is allegedly responsible for the killing of civilians, could continue to hold such a Constitutional office.
She urged the Government to arrest all those responsible for the killings, warning that stronger protests would follow if justice is not delivered.
Meanwhile, the North Maring Women Organisation (NMWO) organised a protest and a memorial prayer programme at JNIMS mortuary premises. During the protest, members of the organisation demanded that the Central and State Governments bring those responsible for the killings to justice.
