IMPHAL, Jul 4: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has asserted that the BJP-led Government at the Centre must answer the many questions raised by people across the country regarding leakage of question papers.
Speaking to media persons at Konthoujam BCC office at Awang Jiri today, MPCC senior vice-president L Tilotama said that AICC leader Rahul Gandhi launched a campaign called Chhatron Ki Goonj (Echo of Students) at Kota, Rajasthan on June 17 with the main objectives of saving education and nurturing the future of youths.
Tilotama said that there is an urgent need to streamline the country’s education system.
The amount allocated for the country’s education sector is around Rs 1.39 lakh crore. It is essential to check whether this huge amount is properly or whether students get due shares and benefits, she said.
Giving an exam like NEET is no easy task, it demands years of hard labour.
Ambitious students burn the midnight oil preparing for such exams, and parents take education loans and even sell off properties to enable their children prepare for such exams.
But the question papers of the extremely competitive NEET got leaked in 2024 and again this year, Tilotama said.
Strangely, the BJP Government seems oblivious to the disappointment and pain caused by the leakage of question papers to lakhs of students and parents across the country, she said.
Following the leakage of NEET question paper, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Madhya Pradesh committed suicide on May 20, she said.
Claiming that the total amount invested by parents in preparing their children for competitive exams is greater than the amount allocated by the Government in the education sector, Tilotama questioned whether the leakage of question papers has anything to do with attempts to enter through backdoors.
She asserted that the BJP-led Government must answer all these questions.
Former MP Dr T Meinya, former MLAs Ak Mirabai, Ningthoujam Biren and many Congress functionaries were also present at the press meet.
