IMPHAL, Jul 3: Santa Khurai, author, poet, scholar, and secretary of All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association (AMANA), was recently invited for a two-week visit to Taiwan, by New Bloom and ACFA.
The visit was aimed at promoting her book, "The Yellow Sparrow", and screen her film "Chonjhon".
The event drew attendees from multiple countries, including international journa- lists and Meiteis living in Taiwan, and shed light on the current Manipur situation.
Khurai's engagements included meetings with Taiwanese CSOs, such as TIWA, and the Taiwan Association for Human Rights, focusing on building ties between North East India and Taiwan.
She shared Manipur's history, highlighting issues like unemployment and the protracted conflict through a presentation titled, "The Silenced Voices of South East Asia".
During the visit, TIWA, backed by Taiwan's Ministry of Labour, resolved to reinforce an existing MoU to bring 1000 workers and students from North East India.
Plans were also prepared to exchange students, art, and culture between North East India and Taiwan. A decision was also taken for Taiwanese CSOs to advocate for increased opportunities for North East India's youth.
Santa Khurai's visit marked a significant step in connecting the North East, Manipur in particular and Taiwan, to opening doors for progress and global visibility for North East India's people.
