KOHIMA, Jul 4: The Naga National Council (NNC), in a strongly worded statement, said today that the "landless Kuki refugees" have been living as tenants in Naga territories. "Their (Kukis) grandparents were faithfully living with the Nagas under the customary laws, cultures and sympathy of the Nagas", the NNC statement also said, adding, "But they seem to have forgotten it, and now they are shamelessly doing as they like without any hesitation".
The NNC then said the Nagas have been "independently living in their own ancestral land bordering Meitei, Assam, and Burma" as neighbours and no other. "The so-called homeland they (kuki) now claim never existed within Naga territories. If they have settled in any land through agreements, then they should peacefully live with the Nagas, the land owner", the NNC added.
The NNC then said the "baseless story" the Kukis tell about the Nagas is an imaginary figment. "They should ask their grandparents about the true history of the Nagas before making any fictitious claims", the NNC added.
The statement said that if the Kukis continue their lies and criminal activities against the Nagas and other indigenous people, they (Kukis) will only create problems themselves and face hardships. "If the nomadic Kuki tribes do not think twice about their future, it is their children and grandchildren who will face the consequences", the NNC further added.
The statement of the NNC then said, "We Nagas can no longer tolerate anymore. If the kukis wish to peacefully live with the Nagas, let them honestly live in Naga territories with respect". The NNC also said the Kukis should not spread any false narrative against the native people.
