17 achievers honoured with 2nd KM Memorial Awards in Thoubal

THOUBAL, Jul 4: The second edition of the Kumar Aribam (KM) Memorial Awards 2026 was held on Saturday at the EEO Ground Lamding Multipurpose Community Hall, Wangjing, where 17 outstanding achievers from different fields were felicitated for their exceptional accomplishments.
Instituted by the Aribam family in memory of Kumar Aribam, father of IAS officer Radhabinod Aribam Sharma, currently serving as Commissioner of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC), Maharashtra, the annual awards recognise excellence in academics, public service, sports, journalism and scientific research.
Among the awardees were successful candidates from Thoubal district who cleared the Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive Examination (MCSCCE) 2022 conducted by the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC), as well as position holders in the Class XII examinations conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (COHSEM).
In addition, the LM Memorial Scientist Award 2026 was conferred on Dr Laishram Ronaldo for his discovery of a new protocluster of galaxies named the "Loktak Protocluster."
The KM Memorial Sports Award 2026 was presented to international women's football goalkeeper Keisham Melody Chanu of Ingourok Makha Leikai, while the KM Memorial Journalist Award 2026 was conferred on Kenedy Chakpram of Yairipok, a journalist with The Sangai Express, in recognition of his contribution to journalism.
Khangabok MLA Okram Surjakumar Singh attended the function as the chief guest, while former MLA Okram Landhoni Devi presided over the programme. Librarian of Manipur University Dr Th. Khomdon Singh, Principal of Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School M Muhindro Singh, and Principal of Royal Academy, Wangjing, Tongbram Babulal Singh attended as guests of honour.
Each award carried a cash prize of Rs 5,000, along with a memento and a certificate of appreciation.
