Torbung comes under attack, again Tiddim Road blockade threatened

IMPHAL, Jul 4: Various organisations have warned of an indefinite blockade along the Tiddim Road as Kuki armed groups attacked Torbung Maning in Bishnupur district last night around 11.20.
Demanding that adequate security must be provided the organisations warned that an indefinite economic blockade will be launched along Tiddim road if their demand is not entertained.
The residents of Torbung and adjoining areas have repeatedly faced incidents of violence, intimidation, and armed provocation despite the presence of Central forces and the continued silence of the Government on the issue has emboldened Kuki armed groups,  said a joint statement issued by Torbung United Club, Lamthabung Area Voluntary Association (Torbung Phougakchao Ikhai Mamang), Youth Development Organisation (Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai), Youth and Social Development Organisation (Kwakta), Social Youth Development Organisation (Phougakchao Ikhai), Youth Development Club (Phougakchao Ikhai Maning Leikai) and Ibudhou Thougalloi Youth Development  Organisation (Phougakchao Ikhai).
Condemning the gun attack, they said the incident was not isolated.
Despite continued suffering, repeated public appeals, and the presence of Central forces, the Organisations said that the Government and authorities concerned have failed to take effective and decisive action against those responsible Kuki armed groups.
It urged the Government to take action against the forces deployed in the area for failing to prevent the attack against the innocent civilians.
The Organisations stated that the residents of the area can no longer remain silent as their lives, villages and markets are under constant threat. Demanding immediate deployment of adequate security forces in the areas, they added that an indefinite economic blockade will be launched along Tiddim road if their demand is not entertained. They also urged the Government to take action against all individuals involved in yesterday's attack.
