IMPHAL, Jul 5 : Defending champions YWC, Langthabal beat TCMDC, Thongju by 36 runs for the record extending third title of Khomdram Ongbi Hijam Mema Devi Memorial T20-Manipur Veteran Cricket Tournament organised by the Manipur Veteran Cricket Association.
Star player Prakashmani yet again proved his mettle to seal the third title on the trot for YWC in the tournament organised by the Manipur Veteran Cricket Association at Langthabal Public Ground.
Asked to bat first, Prakashmani (23 off 31 balls; 3 fours) and Sasi (33 off 24 balls; 3 fours) guided YWC to a modest total of 107/8 before Prakashmani, Samamanda and Tejkumar shared a bulk of 9 wickets to dismiss TCMDC for 71 runs in 16.1 overs.
Ningthoujam Sanjit was the pick of the TCMDC bowlers returning with a haul of 4 wickets (4/19 in 4 overs) as Jiten, Krishna, Bijesh and Brajakumar chipped in with a wicket apiece.
In reply, Premjit (14 off 31 balls) and Gulshannanda (13 off 13 balls) did their best by combining for a 24-run partnership off 30 balls for the second wicket but their efforts fell short as Prakashmani (3/18 in 4 overs), Samananda (3/13 in 4 overs) and Tejkumar (3/10 in 2.1 overs) struck regularly to curb TCMDC from building momentum.
Sasi, meanwhile, finished with 1/16.
Winners received a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a trophy as runners up TCMDC had to settle for a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a trophy.
P Prakashmani meanwhile swept the man of the series, man of the final match and champion batter prizes carrying Rs 2,000 each as she amassed 215 runs and collected 11 wickets in 7 matches.
Abdul Khalique of KSDO who completed a hattrick against YCC; highest wicket taker- Kh Bijesh of TCMDC (13 wickets in 8 innings), and best midfielder- M Ashokumar of YWC (14 dismissals) were also feted during the valedictory function of the tournament.
