IMPHAL, Jul 5: The mass protest against the alleged proxy war continues unabated under the aegis of AMUCO, Poirei Leimarol, AMAWOVA, COHR and MSF.
Sustaining the same mass agitation, Laipham Khunou Club, Laipham Khunou Meira Paibi, Chingmeirong Rongmei Youth Club and Chingmeirong Kabui Women’s Society staged a sit-in-protest at Laipham Khunou Mayai Leikai community hall today at the initiative of AMUCO, Poirei Leimarol, AMAWOVA, COHR and MSF.
The protest demanded an immediate end to the acts of terrorism including killings, arson and destruction of properties being committed by the Government of India’s alleged proxy army.
The protesters used placards which read as “We will defend our land”, “We must determine our own future”, “Go back, Indian armed forces’, “Stop State terrorism immediately”, “Stop terrorists from killing civilians” etc.
Laipham Khunou Meira Paibi secretary Elangbam Sobita Leima said both the Government of India and the State Government seem to be supporting the killings and other acts of violence being committed by Kuki narco-terrorists in Manipur.
Such attitude of the Governments is unacceptable, she said.
Militant groups under SoO agreement have been indulging in rampant killings and widespread violence, and it appears that the agreement is being used as a licence to unleash terror upon civilians, Sobita said.
The silence and inaction of the State Government and the Government of India have bred deep indignation and resentment among the masses, she said.
The Meira Paibi leader said that the Governments must rein in the Kuki narco-terrorists and bring end to the violence without any further delay.
She also urged the Government to arrest, prosecute and award exemplary punishment to all the militants involved in the killing of innocent people.
COHR chairman Phulindro Konsam, AMUCO vice president Ksh Rajen, Poirei Leimarol general secretary Th Apabi and Purnima Rongmei of Chingmeirong Kabui Women Society too spoke on the current situation of Manipur and how people should respond to the protracted crisis.
