IMPHAL, Jul 5: The Wings of Hope Charitable Trust has given Anil Mohan & Niharika Das Merit Scholarship for 2026–27 to Yumkhaibam Kelvin, son of Late Y Kiran Kumar and Y Basanti, of Khumbong Village, Imphal.
Launched this year, the scholarship is awarded annually to best-performing Class X student supported by the Trust.
The scholarship is given in memory of the late parents of the Trust's generous benefactors from Assam, PK Chowdhary (Retd IAS) and Emily Das Chowdhary (Retd IAS), said the trust in a statement.
This merit scholarship is in addition to regular monthly educational assistance already being provided by the Wings of Hope Charitable Trust. The scholarship will continue for two years, covering the recipient's Class XI and Class XII education. It aims to encourage Y Kelvin, and future recipients, to pursue academic excellence without financial constraints, said the trust.
The institution of this scholarship is a significant encouragement for the Trust as it enters its third year of extending financial support to 35 widows and 58 students, all victims of the violent conflict which erupted in Manipur on May 3, 2023.
The Trust's humanitarian work focuses on three core areas:
Continuous Education: Supporting orphans, semi-orphans, and internally displaced children to continue their education.
Alternative Livelihood: Assisting widows and displaced families through skill development, micro-enterprise support, and livelihood initiatives.
Humanitarian Assistance: Extending support to Indian citizens affected by ethnic or communal violence or natural disasters, with special attention to Armed Forces veterans and their families who have served in conflict areas.
The trust said its works are guided by the principles of compassion, self-reliance, education, and reconciliation, delivered through non-religious, apolitical humanitarian service.
Its founder president, retired Lt Col L Manongba, said the trust remains steadfast in its commitment to its guiding mission of "Paving Paths, Empowering Children, Building Futures, and its enduring resolve that No Orphan Should Become a School Dropout."
The trust strives to prevent children from discontinuing their education due to conflict, displacement, or financial hardship, he said.
