IMPHAL, Jul 7 : The Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) has accused the Government of neglecting students studying in Government schools.
In a statement, MSF general secretary Rabikanta Khanganba claimed that some Government schools have not started their academic sessions till today, as found during an inspection drive conducted by the organisation.
He said MSF has been carrying out inspection drives at various Government schools since June 30 as part of its “Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamshi” campaign.
He added that the situation in many of the schools was disheartening.
Rabikanta said that MSF conducted inspection drives at several schools, including Wangkhei Higher Secondary School, Heingang Higher Secondary School, Eastern Higher Secondary School, Wabagai Higher Secondary School, Lalit Mandop Higher Secondary School, Khonghampat Higher School, Oinam Higher Secondary School, Kumbi Higher Secondary School, Thanga Higher Secondary School etc, starting from June 30.
Claiming that Thanga Higher Secondary School was found not conducting classes due to the unavailability of teachers, he said the situation reflected the challenges faced by Government schools.
He questioned whether the Government is attempting to abolish Government schools and promote private institutions.
Saying that students from economically weaker sections primarily study in Government schools, he urged the Government to strengthen the public education system.
He also said that local clubs and residents are increasingly being compelled to arrange teachers to ensure the functioning of Government schools.
Schools are the backbone of society, he said, urging the Government to deploy adequate teachers to Government schools and improve their infrastructure.
