On the auspicious occasion of 9 July – National Students’ Day and the 78th Foundation Day of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all teachers, students, academicians, researchers, and the entire academic fraternity of Manipur. This occasion is not merely a celebration of the founding of a student organization; it is a moment to reaffirm our collective commitment to education, character building, responsible leadership, and Nation- building.
Every year, 9 July is observed as the Foundation Day of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), marking the beginning of a student movement that has inspired generations of young Indians with the ideals of character building, national commitment, academic excellence, and social responsibility. Established on 9 July 1949, ABVP has grown into one of India’s leading student organizations, working with the conviction that students are not merely the citizens of tomorrow but active participants in shaping the Nation today.
Independent India required not only political freedom but also responsible citizens capable of rebuilding the Nation. It was in this context that ABVP emerged with a vision to channel the energy, idealism, and creativity of students towards constructive National development. Over the past seven decades, the organization has encouraged students to excel academically while developing leadership, discipline, patriotism, and a lifelong commitment to public service.
The philosophy of ABVP extends beyond campus activism. It believes that education should produce responsible citizens who contribute meaningfully to society. Therefore, alongside raising issues related to quality education, research, campus infrastructure, hostels, libraries, scholarships, and student welfare, the organization has consistently promoted community service, environmental aware- ness, disaster relief, blood donation, health awareness, and rural outreach programmes.
In Manipur, ABVP has steadily expanded its presence across universities, colleges, and schools by working closely with students from diverse communities. The organization has focused on promoting educational awareness, leadership development, personality development, and constructive student participation while encouraging the spirit of “Student Power, Nation’s Power.”
Despite the many social and geographical challenges faced by the State, ABVP Manipur has continued to organize seminars, leadership workshops, educational conferences, personality development programmes, career guidance initiatives, and student interaction sessions. The organization has also actively conducted membership drives, campus engagement programmes, and activities aimed at strengthening leadership among young students.
ABVP Manipur has also remained actively involved in social service initiatives. Volunteers have participated in blood donation campaigns, environmental protection drives, cleanliness programmes, tree plantation activities, relief efforts during natural calamities, and awareness campaigns on health, education, and social harmony. These initiatives reflect the belief that education must always be accompanied by compassion, discipline, and service.
One of the organization’s major priorities has been strengthening national integration while respecting Manipur’s unique cultural heritage. Through programmes that celebrate the state’s rich traditions, languages, indigenous know- ledge, and vibrant student community, ABVP seeks to connect local aspirations with the larger vision of a developed and united Bharat.
As India moves confidently towards becoming a developed nation, the contribution of its students will be decisive. On this National Students’ Day, let us renew our commitment to excellence in education, integrity in character, leadership through service, and dedication to the nation. The 78th Foundation Day of ABVP reminds us that empowered students build empowered societies, and empowered societies build a strong, self-reliant, and developed Bharat.
Student Power, Nation’s Power.
