Khemchand visits Senapati by road via Kangpokpi CM reviews development works, approves Rikhruri dam

IMPHAL, Jul 8: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh today visited several locations across Senapati district and reviewed the developmental projects being taken up in the district.
He also interacted with the public and civil society organisations (CSOs), and assessed the implementation of various Government projects and initiatives.
Upon his arrival at the Mao Potato Farm, the Chief Minister was informed by T Pamei, Commissioner of Horticulture, that the department had not been receiving adequate funds for the past two years. Due to this, the farm has not been able to produce potatoes in the same quantity as it did earlier.
Referring to the favourable climatic conditions in Mao, Khemchand Singh said that the climate in Mao, Senapati district, is suitable not only for potato cultivation but also for growing flowers and other horticultural produces.
He further assured that the Government will hold discussions with all stakeholders to address the problems and grievances faced by the people of Mao area.
Thereafter, the Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho, MLAs, and the Deputy Commissioner of Senapati, met the representatives of the United Naga Council (UNC) at the conference hall of the Mini Secretariat Complex in Senapati town.
Later, the Chief Minister was accorded a warm welcome by representatives of Mao Council, Mao Students’ Union and the landowners of the Potato Farm at the ACI Auditorium in Punanamei village, Mao.
Addressing the gathering, Khemchand Singh announced the approval for construction of the Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam.
The dam will provide drinking water to 27 nearby villages, according to a press release issued by the CM Secretariat.
During the reception programme, the Mao Council and the Poumai Naga Union (PNU) also submitted two memorandums to the Chief Minister.
In response to a memorandum submitted by the Mao Students’ Union regarding the proposal for the construction of a Multipurpose Skill Training, Trade and Youth Activity Centre at Mao, the Chief Minister said that the matter would be discussed in a Cabinet meeting.
Regarding implementation of the agreement concerning the landowners of the Potato Farm, the Chief Minister said that the Government would discuss the matter with the officials concerned.
During the tour, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Losii Dikho, Deputy Chief Minister; MLAs Tongbram Robindro Singh, Sheikh Noorul Hassan and J Kumo Sha, Commissioner (Home) N Ashok Kumar, Commissioner of Horticulture T Pamei, Dharun Kumar S, Deputy Commissioner of Senapati district; Director of CAF & PD Nelson Yumnam; Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation Devabarta Sharma; Chief Engineer of Water Resources Y Homendro Singh; and the Chief Engineer of PHED.
Our Senapati Correspondent adds: While travelling to Senapati from Imphal, the Chief Minister's convoy was met by people carrying black flags, at Liangmai Taphou demanding justice for the six Naga civilians who were abducted on May 13, 2026, and whose bodies were later recovered in a mutilated and dismembered condition.
The demonstrators urged the Government to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, arrest all those responsible in accordance with the law, and take immediate and effective steps to ensure justice for the victims and their bereaved families.
The Chief Minister arrived at the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Senapati at around 9.30 am and held discussions with the UNC officials in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Senapati.
