Tuleswor Thongbam wins 55+ singles title at MT400 Solapur

IMPHAL, Jul 8 : Manipur’s veteran tennis player Tuleswor Thongbam has done Manipur proud by clinching the 55+ men’s singles title at the SDLTA ITF MT400 hosted by Maharashtra State Tennis Association under the aegis of the World Tennis at Solapur.
Tuleswor Thongbam defeated the top seed Sudhir Gothe 4-6, 6-3 (10-6) to seal the top honour of the category.
Tuleswor reached the final with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jaiprakash Nishad in the semi-final.
He earned a first round bye earlier in the draw and picked up a commanding 6-0, 6-0 quarterfinal win over Anoop Gupta to advance to the semis.
Tuleswor and Jaiprakash Nishad, however, settled for the runners-up title in the doubles competition as they went down 6-7, 2-6 to the pair of Sudhir Gothe and Vimal Roy in the final clash.
Earlier in the semi-final, they outlasted Rajesh Dusane and Asheesh Malpani 6-4, 6-2 to book a final ticket.
