IMPHAL, Jul 8: State Government employees may be forced to launch a more stringent agitation if their demands are not met, the Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Unions' Council and All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation and has warned.
While a cease work stir is still enforced, the employees are considering strengthening it and launching a more intense agitation, said JAC president Rajkumar Basumani, speaking to reporters at the council's office at Babupara today.
The Joint Administrative Council has been urging the State Government to extend service period of employees, increase Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) at par with Central Government employees, implement the 8th Pay Commission, revive the Old Pension Scheme, regularise Contractual staff, declare Saturdays holiday and provide service protection to Grade-III and IV AYUSH Medical Officers.
It has also been demanding the Government to hold recruitment through the Manipur Public Service Commission and Manipur State Staff Selection Commission to fill 50,000 vacancies.
RK Basumani said at present State Government employees are given DA/DR of only 42 percent while Central Government employees are enjoying a DA/DR of 60 percent. The JAC is demanding the State Government to increase the DA/DR to 60 percent from July 2026.
While the members of the Joint Administrative Council have met with the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary and urged them to meet the demands, no positive steps have been taken up so far, Basumani said.
The demands being raised by the employees are legitimate and they deserve to be heard and considered, Basumani said.
If the Government refuses to hear and meet the demands, the employees may strengthen their stir and launch more intense agitation, Basumani added.
He added that the Joint Administrative Council of the AMTUC and AMGEO has no political affiliation and it represents the employees and their interests.
