NEIDP pledges

IMPHAL, Oct 14: North East India Development Party (NEIDP) has announced that it stands strongly against the proposed the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
Speaking to media persons at NEIDP office at Tera Sapam Leirak today, the party State president Dr N Bijoy stated that the party has always backed every initiative taken up by the people against CAB and will continue to do so in the future.
NEIDP organised a signature campaign all over the State in January this year, he recalled and added that the signatures along with a prepared memorandum was submitted to the President of the country through the Governor on February 2.
The party was also a constituent of the Manipur Democratic Alliance (formed by 10 political parties) which pressured the Prime Minister and various Central Government leaders against CAB.
He continued that though NEIDP is no longer a part of the alliance it will continue to stand against CAB.
Dr Bijoy said that NEIDP regards the CAB as an anti-secular, racist and unconstitutional Bill which will render the NRC completely useless and will also result in the ultimate demise of the indigenous people of the North East region.
Replying to a query, Dr Bijoy said that it is the responsibility of the present State Government to convene an Assembly session to take a definitive stand against the Bill.
He also expressed desire for an all political party meeting to be called at the earliest as the CAB might be passed in the coming Winter Parliamentary session.
On the other hand NEIDP Manipur vice president and former MLA RK Anand said that the Central Government must first give the green signal to the Manipur Peoples Bill, update NRC as well as identifying the non-indigenous people of the State.
If the Central Government forcefully implements the CAB, it will have a great impact on Nation building. At such times, NEIDP will not remain a silent spectator, he cautioned.
