IMPHAL, Oct 17: The Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) has urged the Ministry of Human Resource Development to appoint a regular Vice Chancellor for Manipur University.
A team of KSA representatives went to the Raj Bhavan today and handed over a memorandum for submission to the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Speaking to media persons at their Khoyathong office after coming back from the Raj Bhavan, KSA publicity secretary H Babulu  conveyed that their memorandum highlighted the inconveniences being faced at MU on account of absence of a regular VC.
As per an order of the High Court of Manipur, a non-academic retired IAS officer has been serving as the university’s Administrator.
Since the Administrator took charge, regular statutory posts like Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Controller of Examinations and Finance Officer have been lying vacant.
As per the MU Act 2005,  all activities of the university should be carried out through a regular VC, the Academic Council and the Executive Council. At the same time, the Administrator stays away from his office most of the time, Babulu said. Moreover, the number of academic seminar and workshops has declined considerably at MU.
Quoting a media report, Babulu said that MU took a loan of Rs one crore from a bank. He then expressed strong apprehension that MU may land in a situation of overdraft on account of the particular loan.
He then urged the authorities concerned to appoint a regular VC of MU at the earliest.
