Massive fire in Haflong destroys multiple shops

GUWAHATI, Oct 19: Several shops were destroyed in a massive fire that broke out at a market at Lower Haflong in south Assam on Saturday morning.
The incident happened at Lower Haflong market which is about four kilometers from Haflong town.
Properties worth Rs lakh were destroyed in the fire that broke out at 1 am on Saturday.
The houses that were gutted in the fire include a shop and godown belonging to Ashok Shah and a government fair price shop belonging to Santosh Shah.
The other persons whose shops were destroyed in the raging fire includes those of Shambu Sen, Ashim Dey, Uday Thakur, Bappa Dey, Ashish Ghosh, Subal Biswas, Basak Chakraborty, Ashrak Ali and Bishwajit Kar.
The fire also destroyed a pharmacy belonging to Deepak Dey and an auto-rickshaw of Subhasish Pal.
The reason of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
A section of shopkeepers, however, alleged that miscreants were involved in the incident.
