CPI accuses State Govt of misinforming Centre

    25-Oct-2019

IMPHAL, Oct 24: CPI Manipur State Council has accused the BJP-led State Government of misinforming the Central Government  by claiming that the people of Manipur have not said anything against the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN-IM and the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
Asserting that the integrity of Manipur should not be disturbed under any circumstances and CAB should not be implemented in the State, CPI Manipur State Council staged a protest demonstration at Irabot Bhavan here today.
Speaking at the sit-in protest, CPI State secretary L Sotinkumar decried that the BJP-led Government has been paying no heed to the proposal to convene a special session of the State Assembly to discuss the growing apprehension among the people of Manipur that the State’s integrity may be compromised. Even as the people of Manipur have been protesting vociferously against the CAB and any attempt to disintegrate the State, the BJP-led State Government has the audacity to misinform the Central Government by sending false reports that there is no public outcry against the Framework Agreement and the CAB, Sotinkumar said.
He said that CPI would fight relentlessly if any force threatens the integrity of Manipur.
The CPI leader decried that the State Government is not attentive enough to possible challenges to the integrity of Manipur emanating from the imminent settlement of the Indo-Naga peace talk. Sotinkumar went on to question how the State Government could remain complacent on the excuse that the Central Government has not yet communicated anything to the State  Government about the Framework Agreement.
The State Government is quite insincere even though the State is staring at serious law and order problems on account of possible solutions like autonomous council, pan-Naga cultural forum, extension of Article 371-A etc, he remarked.
Amidst the growing fear over the Framework Agreement, the Central Government has been planning to pass the CAB during the Parliament session scheduled next month but CPI will never accept it.
CPI MPs will oppose the CAB when it is tabled in the Lok Sabha. As CAB will lead to complete annihilation of all indigenous communities, CPI will fight it tooth and nail, Sotinkumar added. Former CPI State Secretary Dr M Nara and many other party leaders also took part in the sit-in protest.
