Meira rallies staged to assert stand of Manipur

IMPHAL, Oct 25: As a part of the public alert movement on the peace talk between the Government of India and NSCN-(IM),  Meira/torch rallies were carried out by womenfolk in different parts of the State today evening under the banner of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI).
Based on the announcement by COCOMI to launch alert protest torch rally from 7 pm today, womenfolk at different localities came out holding torches (Meiras) and began taking out rallies in their respective areas.
Rallies were held at Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai, Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai, Kakwa Maibam Leikai, Haobam Marak, Irom Leikai Ayangpalli, Andro Parking, Wangkhei, Lamlong and Sawombung area.
The alert torch rallies from Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai and Kakwa Maibam Leikai were diverted towards Mayai Lambi and towards Heirangoithong after passing Pishumthong, by a large number of police personnel deployed in Singjamei Chingamakha area.
During the rally, womenfolk shouted slogan like 'Long Live Manipur', 'Condemn communal politics by India', '60 MLAs go to Delhi and announce your stand' etc.
Public alert torch rally was also held by the womenfolk of Awang Sekmai, Khongampat, Maharabi, Tendongyang and Naransena at their respective locality and the surrounding areas.
A large number of police were seen deployed in all the major junctions leading toward Imphal to prevent any kind of untoward incident.
However, there are no reports of any such unwanted incident during the rallies.
