IMPHAL, Oct 25: Meitei Pangal community of the State have resolved to fight back in befitting manner if any force dares to challenge the integrity of Manipur.
A Pangal convention on Naga peace talk and integrity of Manipur was held today at Golapati under the aegis of the All Manipur Muslim Organisations Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC).
The convention was participated by MLA Md Ashabuddin, Islamic religious leaders, intellectuals and civil society leaders of Pangal community.
The convention resolved that the integrity of Manipur and the sanctity of its territorial boundary should not be disturbed under any circumstances.
AMMOCOC president SM Jalal said that a final settlement to the Indo-Naga peace talk may be signed by October 31.
There is no objection to bringing a solution to the political dialogue but the solution would be rejected outright if it challenges the integrity of Manipur or paves way for setting up any ethnic based separate administration.
Today’s convention is specifically organised to discuss what position the Pangal community should adopt in case of such eventuality, Jalal said.
Pangal community took active part in all the mass movements carried out to assert the non-negotiability of Manipur’s integrity since 1997 when the Government of India and NSCN-IM entered into a political dialogue.
A public meeting of Pangal community was held on March 20 last year under the aegis of AMMOCOC and it resolved to safeguard the integrity of Manipur as well as its territorial boundary, Jalal said.
The resolutions adopted at the meeting were sent to the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister, the Governor and the Chief Minister.
There has been no alteration to those resolutions and today’s convention decided to remind the same resolutions to the Government of India, he said.
He said that the Government of India has been following diabolic policies which would ignite endless communal conflicts in the North East region instead of working sincerely to resolve the region’s political issues.
The Pangal community can see through these diabolic policies and the community is always prepared to discharge its socio-political responsibilities, Jalal asserted.
It is a firm resolve of the Pangal community to face all eventualities in case the Government of India does not listen to the voice of the people of Manipur, he added.
