IMPHAL, Oct 31 : As a part of the nationwide observation of "Rashtriya Ekta Diwas" in commemoration of the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports today organised a run with the theme " Run for Unity".
The run flagged off from Khuman Lampak Sports Complex was participated by many athletes and individuals working in the armed forces who also pledged for unity and upholding internal security in the country.
The observation programme was attended by athletes of National Sports University, Sports Authority of India besides officials and members of Manipur Olympic Association, Youth Affairs and Sports Department, NSS volunteers and armed forces personnel.
The oath for unity and integrity was supposedly to be administered by Chief Minister, N Biren as the chief guest but he could not make it to the event due to some inconveniences. The oath was however administered by YAS Minister Letpao Haokip during the programme which was held a bit latter to the prior schedule in the presence of Education Minister, Th Radheysham Singh; RK Ranjan Singh, MP, Lok Sabha; Chief Secretary, Suresh Babu; YAS Commissioner, Boby Waikhom and YAS Director, Harmit Singh Pahuja as presidium members.
A similar programme and run was also held in Chandel under the aegis of District Administration, Chandel and Nehru Yuva Kendra. The run was flagged off from Mini Secretariat, Chandel by Krishnakumar, DC Chandel. The programme was also attended by SP, Chandel District and top officials of District Administration.
