IMPHAL, Nov 18: Several human right groups and civil society organisations have petitioned the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) against the alleged arbitrary detention of former political prisoner Sanayaima alias RK Meghen.
The petition submitted to the MHRC by UN-CSCHR, HRA, HRDM, COHR, CRAM, Reachout, JPF, UPF and EEVFAM expressed deep concern with the alleged arbitrary detention of Sanayaima without any legal or Constitutional basis which is a clear violation of human rights including mental torture.
After serving his full prison term, Sanayima was released from Guwahati Central Jail on November 9.
However, immediately upon his release, he was whisked away by some Government agencies along with his son and lawyer.
Till date, Sanayima is reportedly kept/confined in an undisclosed Government accommodation in Delhi, according to the petition.
It then pleaded the MHRC to direct the Chief Secretary and the DGP to ascertain the whereabouts of Sanayaima alias RK Meghen, his son and lawyer within  the next 24 hours.
It appealed to the MHRC to direct the authorities concerned to release Sanayaima, his son and lawyer without any further delay.
The petitioners also appealed to the MHRC to inform the whereabouts of the trio to the general public of Manipur through media.
They further pleaded the MHRC to take up other appropriate actions which the commission deems fit and proper.
Meghen was recently released from jail.
