Jiribam police seize 8.6 kg Opium, three arrested

Jiribam, Nov 19: A combined team of Anti-drugs Cell team and Jiribam District Police arrested three persons for possessing 8.605 Kg of opium yesterday while carrying out frisking and checking over all types of vehicles at Leingangpokpi village near All Jiribam Motor Transport and Drivers Union branch office along NH-37.
Report from Superintendent of Police, Jiribam District M Mubi Singh stated that while undergoing checking and frisking of vehicles along NH-37, one Nissan Micra car (Silver) heading from Imphal towards Jiribam Bazaar was stopped for checking and seized 10 packets of Opium wrapped inside brown cello-tape stuffed inside the left and right side cupboard of the car’s dikki.
The three persons have been identified as Seitinkhup Khongsai (25) s/o Ngamjapao Khongsai of Gangpikon village, Kangpokpi District; Deepak Shivakoti (34) s/o (L) Ganga Prasad of Kanto Premnagar, Imphal West District and Bhagirath Luitel (46) s/o (L) Chandraprasad Luitel of Kanglatombi Hathikhuwa village of Imphal West District.
On further questioning, the arrested individuals revealed that the illicit drugs were manufactured in the house of  Seitinkhup Khongsai and the same were transported at Shillong, Meghalaya.
A case has been registered at Jiribam Police station for further investigation.
