Cease work strike

    21-Nov-2019
IMPHAL, Nov 20: Owing to the failure of the State Government to take necessary steps for implementing 7th UGC Pay, the Federation Of Government College Teachers Association (FEGOCTA) Manipur, has launched a cease work strike from today.
The association also warned that failure on part of the Government to do the needful will result in the strike continuing further in an intensified manner.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, FEGOCTA general secretary Dr N Somorendro said that an executive meeting of the association was held on November 18 and during the said meeting, it was resolved that as the State Government had been neglecting the demand of the association, a cease work strike would be launched from today.
Pointing out that semester exams for BA, BSc and BCom will begin from November 28, he urged the Government to do the needful and implement UGC 7th Pay at the earliest instead of dragging the issue further.
For other States, 7th Pay already came into effect from July 11, 2019. The State Government had earlier appealed to the Government teachers to wait till October 26 and then till November 15 again. However, even after November 15 came and went, there has been no response from the Government.
He explained that the Government teachers had postponed their agitation twice due to issues concerning the State and due to college election.
FEGOCTA's demand has already by submitted to the Education Minister in the form of a memorandum and a similar memo will also be submitted to the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister as well, he added.
