Zomis to rally for ZTC

CCpur, Nov 23: Amidst the unrest over the impending Naga settlement and the talks about the Government looking for a settlement with the Kuki-Zomi groups, the tribes affiliated under the Zomi community will be organising a peaceful rally on November 25, to raise their demands for creation of Zoland Territorial Council and for expediting the political talks with KNO/UPF.
The Zomi Council (the apex body of Zomis) have pulled-up its sleeve, since last week, to hold a simultaneous rally at least in six locations including Chura-chandpur district head- quarters and other sub-divisional headquarters across the district.
“The purpose of holding the peaceful rally is to call on the Government to expedite the political talks with the armed groups, KNO and UPF, as well as for fulfilment of the demands for creation of Zoland Territorial Council for the kindred Zo tribes,” John K Ngaihte, Chairman Zomi Council told media persons today.
Apart form the participation of numerous social organisations and village authorities, the rally will receive the blessing of Churches, said Ngaihte while adding that Hmar Women Association, as entrusted by the Hmar Inpui, will also be taking part in the rally.
The rally which has been planned simultaneously at the sub-divisional headquarters of Singngat, Suangdoh, Mualnuam, Thanlon and at Leijangphai will begin at 11 am, reports our correspondent.
In the town area, the rally will begin at Tangnuam playground and conclude at Lamka public ground after passing through the Tedim Road and Tipaimukh Road.
A brief gathering will also be organised at the concluding venue and a memorandum will be submitted to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner Churachandpur.
‘The rally will be very crucial chapter for the Zo people and hence deserve the unconditional backing and participation,’ asserts the ZC Chairman as he called on all to join the rally which he said was not directed against any individual or community.
