70th Constitution Day observed

Imphal, Nov 26 : To commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India, November 26 is celebrated as Constitution Day every year. Press Information Bureau and Regional Outreach Bureau, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, GoI, Imphal celebrated the 70th anniversary of adoption of the Indian Constitution at Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak, Imphal today.
Abhishek Dayal, Director, PIB, Imphal read out the Preamble of the Constitution of India which was followed by a lecture on the Constitutional provisions delivered by Dr Chongtham Narendra, Advocate. He conveyed that the Indian Constitution provides the fundamental rights to its citizens but it also enjoins upon them the duty to safeguard public property and to abstain from violence.
A spot quiz competition on constitutional provision was organized for staff of PIB and ROB, Imphal as part of the occasion. Meanwhile, to celebrate the 70th anniversary of adoption of Indian Constitution, Manipur State Legal Services Authority in collaboration with District Legal Services Authorities Imphal East and Imphal West launched a year long campaign today to raise raising awareness on citizens’ duties including Fundamental Duties, which are enshrined in Chapter IV-A (Article 51A) of the Indian Constitution.
The campaign started with a cycle rally, which was flagged off by K Nirojit, secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West and Imphal East from Thambalkhong Lower Primary School.
The rally wrapped up at the office of the Manipur State Legal Services Authority, Lamphelpat.
The cycle rally was led by Sadananada Sorokhaibam, Deputy Member Secretary, Manipur State Legal Services Authority and it halted at Pureiromba Bazaar, Imphal East and Cheirap Court Complex, Imphal West where pamphlets on fundamental duties (in English and local dialect) were distributed apart from briefings the public on the fundamental duties.
Around 40 students from various schools along with staff of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East and Imphal West participated.
Following this, an event for reading out of the Preamble  of the Constitution of India and briefing on Fundamental Duties of Citizens was conducted at the conference hall, ADR Building, Lamphel Court Complex.  Judicial officers along with the staff of the Courts located within Cheirap Court Complex, Lamphel Court Complex and DC complex, Advocates, Panel Lawyers, Remand Lawyers, staff and members of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, District Legal Services Authority, Imphal East and Imphal West, Para Legal Volunteers of Imphal East and West, Security personnel participated in the program. It can be mentioned that Constitution Day was observed in all the district Courts of Manipur by the District Legal Services Authorities of the respective district.
Reading of the Preamble was also carried out along with awareness program on Fundamental Duties.
As is done elsewhere in the country, the Dhanamanjuri Community College at DM University, Imphal, also celebrated National Constitution Day at the conference hall of the college today.
The yearlong nationwide activities on Constitution day has been launched to mark the 70th Anniversary of the adoption of the Indian Constitution by the Constituent Assembly, beginning today.
A series of activities, including essay competition, debate, quiz competition, lectures by eminent personalities in the service, constitutional head etc shall be the main highlights of the celebration. The activities aim at reiterating and re-orienting the citizens towards the value and principles expressed in the Indian Constitution and encouraging all Indians to play their rightful role in strengthening the Indian democracy.
The opening day of the celebration was attended by Ngangom Tejkumar Singh, former Director of Public Prosecution and he administered the oath taking to the faculties and students.
He also enlightened the gathering with the knowledge of fundamental rights and the value of fundamental duties.
